Today is such a fabulous day for us at Club1BR. It's the 26th National Reading Day!
June 19 is the death anniversary of. P N Panicker who dedicated his life to popularising reading. Take a look at this lovely article on him - link. Here's an extract from the article:
Puthuvayil Narayana Panicker (1 March 1909 – 19 June 1995) is known as the “Father of the Library Movement” in the Indian state of Kerala. The activities that he initiated triggered a popular cultural movement in Kerala which led to universal literacy in the state in the 1990s.
Panicker's death anniversary is celebrated as the National Reading Day. Recently CBSE sent a circular to all schools regarding this. Here is the link on the CBSE website. An extract from the circular:
Started as a Reading Day Celebration on 19th June 1996, it has become a mass movement to promote the culture of reading. On 19th June 2017, Hon’ble Prime Minister launched the 22nd National Reading Month Celebrations and gave a clarion call to propagate the message of ‘Read and Grow’ among all the citizens of the country by 2022.
I've attached a poster for you to share with your school teachers and your WhatsApp groups. By the way, do you want to join our principals only WhatsApp group? Let me know!
